As temperatures rise and the days become longer, we know what that means – spring is nearly here! If you want to make sure your plumbing work is in top condition for the upcoming season, now is the best time to get your plumbing system ready. Now’s your chance to take advantage of Canal Winchester Plumbing & Drain’s tips and tricks on how you can be proactive before April arrives.

HOW CAN YOU BEST PREPARE YOUR PLUMBING SYSTEM FOR THE ONSET OF SPRING?

  1. CHECK THE FAUCETS & SINKS: As your sinks and faucets are employed daily, it is essential that you guarantee they are set up to perform at their very best. So, maintaining regular checks each season will ensure any leaks or damage don’t go unnoticed. Additionally, make sure to inspect underneath your sink, too. If there are corroded pipes, then these will need to be taken care of right away!
  1. CHECK THE TOILETS: Don’t fall victim to insidious, lurking, leaky toilets! If not addressed quickly and promptly, these issues can potentially cause damage with costly repercussions. So, keep an eye out for water accumulating around your toilet or if the water never seems to turn off – both are telltale signs of a troublesome leak.
  1. CHECK THE OUTDOOR FAUCETS: Make sure to give your outdoor faucets a thorough inspection! When you first turn them on, don’t be alarmed if you hear some odd noises; this is perfectly normal and will stop shortly as water begins to flow. Allow it a few moments to continue running before turning off the tap. Then wait a couple of minutes just in case any leaks or dripping occurs. Doing this ensures that all outdoor faucets are working correctly so they’ll be ready for use in the warmer weather.
  1. CHECK THE WATER HOSES: As winter transitions to spring and temperatures quickly fluctuate between warm and cold, it is essential for our customers to review their water hoses too. Always keep an eye out for any signs of cracks, wear and tear, or expansion due to heat, which points to the fact that your hose is no longer fit for use. If you spot any damaged areas on it, replace it immediately before reattaching it to your outdoor fixtures in anticipation of the spring weather.
  1. CHECK THE SUMP PUMP: With spring cleaning here, now is the perfect time to get your sump pump thoroughly cleaned too! If you’re unsure of how to proceed, take a look at the owner’s manual, or don’t hesitate to contact us! Our experienced team is always on hand and happy to assist.
  1. CHECK THE MAIN WATER VALVE: Don’t forget to inspect your main water valve, especially if it has been a while since you last turned it off. To ensure that the main shut-off valve is in working order, close and open the valve clockwise and then counterclockwise, respectively. In any case of emergency, this fixture must be easily accessible without any complications whatsoever, so don’t hesitate to upgrade should you encounter difficulties with operating it. The last thing you want to deal with is a difficult water shut-off valve in the middle of a plumbing emergency!

As you prepare your home for spring, keep a keen eye on these plumbing tips. Adhering to them will guarantee an effortless jump into the new season and shield you from future problems.
